Are you trying to send the movie through mail?

Ask Your Own Mac Question
Customer reply replied 4 months ago
or just save it to my computer
Customer reply replied 4 months ago
no way of sharing is working i can't export it at all
Mac Support Specialist: Justin Johnson, Mac Genius replied 4 months ago

There is a share button in the top right of iMovie. Have you tried that?

Ask Your Own Mac Question
Customer reply replied 4 months ago
of course but the sharing always fails
Customer reply replied 4 months ago
i wouldn't need help if i just needed to find a button
Mac Support Specialist: Justin Johnson, Mac Genius replied 4 months ago

What does it say when it fails?

Ask Your Own Mac Question
Customer reply replied 4 months ago
that the sharing failed
Mac Support Specialist: Justin Johnson, Mac Genius replied 4 months ago

Does it doe that for every option? Have you restarted your computer and tried again?

Ask Your Own Mac Question
Customer reply replied 4 months ago
no i didn't restart my computer because i don't want the clips to not save
Customer reply replied 4 months ago
i need to export it so the clips join into one movie beacuse basically i had to cut parts of a video out. but i can't export it so i can't join the clips or save it or anything and i tried googling a solution but i haven't found anything that helped me
Mac Support Specialist: Justin Johnson, Mac Genius replied 4 months ago

Why can you not save the work you are doing. It isn't going to hurt anything and a restart is likely your answer.

Ask Your Own Mac Question
Customer reply replied 4 months ago
i really feel like it's not because it's not like this is an uncommon problem for imovie
Customer reply replied 4 months ago
i can't save the work im doing because i cant export it that's the way it saves im assuming because there's no other save option
Customer reply replied 4 months ago
but sure i guess i'll restart it. is that your answer?
Mac Support Specialist: Justin Johnson, Mac Genius replied 4 months ago

All trouble shooting starts with the basics. Least destructive to most destructive. This is the least destructive process that can be done. As for your work the Library is living and therefore already saved. Closing the application and restarting your computer will do nothing, but prove whether it works. If it doesn't we go down a more destructive path towards a solution. That is how tech support has and will forever work. Do you understand?

Ask Your Own Mac Question
Customer reply replied 4 months ago
yeah
Customer reply replied 4 months ago
it's just that turning my computer on and off has never been a solution to this problem from what i've read and i just thought that was worth mentioning. if i restart my computer does this chat end though?
Mac Support Specialist: Justin Johnson, Mac Genius replied 4 months ago

No. You can come right back to the site and tell me it didn't work.

Ask Your Own Mac Question
Customer reply replied 4 months ago
when i go to close imovie it says "tasks that are currently in progress will not be completed" does that mean ill lose my work
Mac Support Specialist: Justin Johnson, Mac Genius replied 4 months ago

No. It is the hung process that is making your export not work. You need to force quit iMovie. This is the exact reason I am having you restart.

Ask Your Own Mac Question
Customer reply replied 4 months ago
what's a hung process?
Customer reply replied 4 months ago
i'm pretty sure i just lost my work...
Customer reply replied 4 months ago
okay wait no i didn't
Mac Support Specialist: Justin Johnson, Mac Genius replied 4 months ago

A hung process is when a piece of software is not functioning within normal parameters and takes longer than it should and fails.

Ask Your Own Mac Question
Customer reply replied 4 months ago
okay i'm back i failed again. also i don't not have faith in you i just don't have faith in imovie
Customer reply replied 4 months ago
not i failed again the movie failed exporting again
Mac Support Specialist: Justin Johnson, Mac Genius replied 4 months ago

And you did restart the computer. Sorry that is just a very fast restart.

Ask Your Own Mac Question
Customer reply replied 4 months ago
yeah i restarted it i have the new macbook pro so it restarts fast
Mac Support Specialist: Justin Johnson, Mac Genius replied 4 months ago

Mine is older. It is not that quick.

Ask Your Own Mac Question
Mac Support Specialist: Justin Johnson, Mac Genius replied 4 months ago

When it fails can you give me the exact error message?

Ask Your Own Mac Question
Customer reply replied 4 months ago
sorry? i promise i restarted it
Mac Support Specialist: Justin Johnson, Mac Genius replied 4 months ago

I believe you.

Ask Your Own Mac Question
Customer reply replied 4 months ago
Video rendering error: 10004 (iMovie error 10004: renderVideoFrame failed) that's the exact message
Mac Support Specialist: Justin Johnson, Mac Genius replied 4 months ago

Close iMovie and launch in holding CMD + OPTION. Click Delete Preferences and then the application will open like it did when it was new, Your content and library will be there, but you should be able to share the clip now.

Ask Your Own Mac Question
Customer reply replied 4 months ago
im sorry it failed again
Mac Support Specialist: Justin Johnson, Mac Genius replied 4 months ago

Ok, the only other thing it could be is corruption in your clip. So this is the most destructive thing. Do you have more than one clip you are trying to export or just one at at time?

Ask Your Own Mac Question
Customer reply replied 4 months ago
more than one, i want to export them to join them. originally, it was one clip but i needed to split the clips multiple times because i was asked to cut out certain sections of the video. it took me a really long time to do.
Mac Support Specialist: Justin Johnson, Mac Genius replied 4 months ago

And the clips you are trying to export are in the timeline?

Ask Your Own Mac Question
Customer reply replied 4 months ago
uhhh if the timeline is the part at the bottom then yes
Mac Support Specialist: Justin Johnson, Mac Genius replied 4 months ago

The simple workaround is just to cut/delete the first frames of the A and B clips.

Ask Your Own Mac Question
Customer reply replied 4 months ago
what does that mean??
Mac Support Specialist: Justin Johnson, Mac Genius replied 4 months ago

So on each clip remove the very last frame on each clip and then the export will not fail.

Ask Your Own Mac Question
Customer reply replied 4 months ago
will that impact the movie at all
Customer reply replied 4 months ago
it's not letting me remove frames of the clips ?
Mac Support Specialist: Justin Johnson, Mac Genius replied 4 months ago

By a frame. It will likely no be noticeable, but it is the most destructive and the most common solution to your issue.

Ask Your Own Mac Question
Mac Support Specialist: Justin Johnson, Mac Genius replied 4 months ago

Use split clip and then delete the frame you split from it.

Ask Your Own Mac Question
Customer reply replied 4 months ago
i don't quite understand how to do that. the video is a conference so its possible it will cut off his speaking no?
Mac Support Specialist: Justin Johnson, Mac Genius replied 4 months ago

I would hope not seeing as it is a frame and most cameras shoot 30 frames per second minimum.

Ask Your Own Mac Question
Customer reply replied 4 months ago
split the clip from what point though? the very last second?
Mac Support Specialist: Justin Johnson, Mac Genius replied 4 months ago

yes

Ask Your Own Mac Question
Customer reply replied 4 months ago
then ill lose that second of the speech yes?
Mac Support Specialist: Justin Johnson, Mac Genius replied 4 months ago

Yes. Were the clips that close that a second needs to stay?

Ask Your Own Mac Question
Customer reply replied 4 months ago
kind of it cuts off an entire word
Customer reply replied 4 months ago
it's still failing...
Customer reply replied 4 months ago
i cut off from .2 to .3 seconds from each clip and it's still failing
Customer reply replied 4 months ago
what happens with this now?

What Customers are Saying:

Hi John, Thank you for your expertise and, more important, for your kindness because they make me, almost, look forward to my next computer problem. After the next problem comes, I'll be delighted to correspond again with you. I'm told that I excel at programing. But system administration has never been one of my talents. So it's great to have an expert to rely on when the computer decides to stump me. God bless, Bill
