I've spoken to Apple...

I've spoken to Apple Support, but to no avail.

Technician's Assistant: What kind of Apple device do you have? What Operating System (OS) are you running?

My two email accounts, one gmail and one comcast, come in to both emails boxes. It wasn't always like that, just the last 3 or 4 months. I have a MAC and an ipad mini.

Technician's Assistant: How long has this been going on with your Mac? What have you tried so far?

I haven't tried anything.......am not very saavy.

What would you like the end result today to be? (be specific)

Ask Your Own Mac Question
Customer reply replied 5 months ago
For my gmail emails go to my gmail inbox and my comcast emails go to my comcase inbox.
Customer reply replied 5 months ago
ok.
Mac Support Specialist: Damian Costa, Computer Hardware Engineer replied 5 months ago

This will take some time and a remote session...please stand by while I finish up with a previous customer

Ask Your Own Mac Question
Mac Support Specialist: Damian Costa, Computer Hardware Engineer replied 5 months ago

Who configured this initially to do this a long time ago? (email forwarding etc to a single mail box)

Ask Your Own Mac Question
Customer reply replied 5 months ago
To my knowledge, nobody did. Suddenly it just started happening.
Customer reply replied 5 months ago
NOBODY.
Mac Support Specialist: Damian Costa, Computer Hardware Engineer replied 5 months ago

hmmm...how long ago?

Ask Your Own Mac Question
Customer reply replied 5 months ago
Several months, not sure exactly.
Mac Support Specialist: Damian Costa, Computer Hardware Engineer replied 5 months ago

I have been doing this 22years and I am not sure if I have ever heard of "mail forwarding" setting adjusting on their own

Does anyone else have access to either of these accounts?

Ask Your Own Mac Question
Mac Support Specialist: Damian Costa, Computer Hardware Engineer replied 5 months ago

And which account is ALL of the mail being dumped into? (or is all of the above going into both?)

Ask Your Own Mac Question
Customer reply replied 5 months ago
Most of it is going to both!
Mac Support Specialist: Damian Costa, Computer Hardware Engineer replied 5 months ago

OK...someone must have set this up (someone with access to your password *****)...who would that be?

Ask Your Own Mac Question
Mac Support Specialist: Damian Costa, Computer Hardware Engineer replied 5 months ago

OR...when did you get Comcast internet?

Ask Your Own Mac Question
Mac Support Specialist: Damian Costa, Computer Hardware Engineer replied 5 months ago

Did you tell Comcast initially to "email forward"?

Ask Your Own Mac Question
Customer reply replied 5 months ago
I've had comcast forever and gmail for many years. I have no idea about "email forward".
Mac Support Specialist: Damian Costa, Computer Hardware Engineer replied 5 months ago

"email forwarding" is what this is called (kind of like call forwarding on phones)

Ask Your Own Mac Question
Mac Support Specialist: Damian Costa, Computer Hardware Engineer replied 5 months ago

but in this case...both email address are pointed to each other...to leave a "copy" on each others box (hence receiving on both...for both)

Ask Your Own Mac Question
Mac Support Specialist: Damian Costa, Computer Hardware Engineer replied 5 months ago

What box on your Mac do you use to check your email?

Ask Your Own Mac Question
Mac Support Specialist: Damian Costa, Computer Hardware Engineer replied 5 months ago

I mean like what application icon etc

Ask Your Own Mac Question
Customer reply replied 5 months ago
No, I don't recall doing that. I use one for personal business and the other for a non-profit I volunteer with.
Customer reply replied 5 months ago
I usually go to firefox and type in comcast.net or gmail.com. I sometimes use the MAIL icon. In both cases I get the same results.
Mac Support Specialist: Damian Costa, Computer Hardware Engineer replied 5 months ago

Have you ever adjusted your "MAIL" settings on your Mac to include both"?

OR

Did you mess with mail settings a few months ago as it relates to your Apple ID account?

OR

Did you add an additional Apple ID account a few months ago?

Ask Your Own Mac Question
Customer reply replied 5 months ago
No to all the above.
Mac Support Specialist: Damian Costa, Computer Hardware Engineer replied 5 months ago

Do you have an iPhone or any other Mac device?

Any of the above adjustments made to any of those if so?

Ask Your Own Mac Question
Customer reply replied 5 months ago
I have an ipad mini. No adjustments.
Mac Support Specialist: Damian Costa, Computer Hardware Engineer replied 5 months ago

OK...important question

Does anyone else have "password *****" to these accounts?

Ask Your Own Mac Question
Mac Support Specialist: Damian Costa, Computer Hardware Engineer replied 5 months ago

OR

Are these accounts "auto logged in" anywhere other than Home

Ask Your Own Mac Question
Customer reply replied 5 months ago
No.
Mac Support Specialist: Damian Costa, Computer Hardware Engineer replied 5 months ago

OK...well this is a weird one

There is a decent chance I can log in and figure out how to fix it (settings)...BUT it doesn't explain why it happened in the first place...which means it probably can and will happen again

If you want me to proceed...let me know...but it will be a phone call and a remote session (and more money $120)

OR

I can opt out and let another Expert try

Your call

Ask Your Own Mac Question
Customer reply replied 5 months ago
I don't want to pay $120. If you opt out for another tech, will he/she have access to my responses?
Mac Support Specialist: Damian Costa, Computer Hardware Engineer replied 5 months ago

Correct

What Customers are Saying:

Hi John, Thank you for your expertise and, more important, for your kindness because they make me, almost, look forward to my next computer problem. After the next problem comes, I'll be delighted to correspond again with you. I'm told that I excel at programing. But system administration has never been one of my talents. So it's great to have an expert to rely on when the computer decides to stump me. God bless, Bill
