I already trashed Norton. I don't believe I have any others

Is Norton now installed again? If so please try: Norton menu, choose norton firewall and disable application blocking and disable location awareness.

Have you also tried to reset your Safari browser?

With Safari open click the Safari menu heading and select Reset Safari, check all of the boxes then click the Reset button. Restart the computer and see if Safari runs smoothly then.

In Finder, do you still see any Norton references? Or Norton Firewall references?

If so, is your Safari blocked from there?

Can we please try the following:

network settings > assistent> click I use DSL> enter your Password.

Do you get back on the internet?

Also after the uninstall of Norton, have you restarted the MAC?

DSL requires a network, so that won't work. And yes, restarted after I trashed Norton

You are not behind a proxy server? In the advanced setting of Safari the proxy settings are blank?

Have you tried restarting the vram?

Restart you computer press and hold "command + option + P + R" the moment you hear the boot sound (chime). Hold the keys till you hear the chime again.
