My apple phone suddenly requires a six-digit passcode that I do not have. Hence, I am unable to open my phone. I am 78 years old and struggling to even understand what kind of phone I have. The iPhone has a number on the back: C E 0682. My email address is***@******.***

JA: Have you installed any updates recently?
Customer: no
JA: What troubleshooting have you tried?

The only way to bypass the passcode lock is to perform a factory reset:

  1. From a computer, go to icloud.com/find.
  2. If prompted, sign in with your Apple ID
  3. Click All Devices at the top of your browser window.
  4. Select the device you want to erase.
  5. Click Erase [device] to erase your device and its passcode.
  6. Now you can restore from a backup.
