how do I end safari updates? I can't open anything
JA: What OS X (Operating System, e.g. Sierra, El Capitan, Yosemite, etc.) or iOS are you runninng?
Customer: ios i believe how would i know?
JA: Have you installed any updates recently?
Customer: no - not intentionally
JA: What troubleshooting have you tried?
Customer: I can't do much- screen keeps showing safari cannot be opened while it is being updated
JA: Anything else you want the Mac expert to know before I connect you?

You can stop the updating by powering off your computer and powering it back on again. If you are open to select the option to turn it off, you can hold down the power button for 5-10 seconds and it will turn off.
