When I try to move the cursor to a certain place, or to copy

Customer Question

When I try to move the cursor to a certain place, or to copy a text, the cursor suddenly copies everything in sight, or flies off to "Never Land." Is someone controlling my computer remotely?
JA: Just to clarify, what's the make and model of your machine, and what operating system are you running?
Customer: iMac using MacOS Sierra version 10.12.1
JA: Have you installed any updates recently?
Customer: Sierra itself. But the "flying cursor" was there even before I updated to Sierra.
JA: What troubleshooting have you tried?
Customer: None, since I didn't know what to do and didn't want to risk making the problem greater.
JA: Anything else you want the Mac expert to know before I connect you?
Customer: Nothing I can think of.
