I am trying to open a Keynote that was created on an updated

Customer Question

I am trying to open a Keynote that was created on an updated version. However, my system is telling me I need an updated version to open this file. My Mac was new just last Christmas, how can the software be out of date all ready?
JA: How much experience do you have with this particular machine?
Customer: Moderate.
JA: Have you installed any updates recently?
Customer: I have the system on automatic updates.
JA: Anything else you want the computer expert to know before I connect you?
Customer: I have several Pages and Keynote files that are giving me the same message. I was told I could update iwork for free; but, I have no idea how to accomplish this process. I went to apple.com/iwork and it took me nowhere.
