I have put blank DVD into external drive on macbook pro, no icon has appeared so can't copy anything onto it, nor can I eject it!
JA: Just to clarify, how old is your MacBook Pro and what operating system are you running?
Customer: bought Dec 2014 running yosemite 10.10.5
JA: Have you installed any updates recently?
Customer: don't know sorry
JA: What troubleshooting have you tried?
Customer: just looked for an icon that I can drag into the trash but I can't find one!

You can force eject the disc. Restart your mac and immediately hold down the LEFT trackpad button or left mouse button (if a mouse connected) before the chime sound/grey screen appears. Keep it held down for 30 seconds or until the disk comes out.
