Can you tell me please exactly what happens when you try to start the phone?

The only thing that happens is the screen displays the apple logo and then locks up....

Can you hold the home and power buttons on the iPhone for about 10 seconds until you see the Apple Logo, then release.

Let the phone restart and tell me if it then operates correctly please.
