I'm sorry about the issue. Have you tried this yet to restart the iPad: press and hold both the Power (On / Off) button and the Home button (which is located right below the screen) together for at least 10 seconds, until the Apple logo appears, then wait a bit, then check?
What email do you use, such as Hotmail, Yahoo, Gmail, AOL, etc.?
If you test going to your email website on the iPad, are you able to sign in and use your email there?
Do you also have a windows or mac computer? If yes, is your email currently working on your computer?
