Hello there! Please follow the steps below to reset your password.

1. turn off mac
2. Locate/push CMD (command key) and R keys
3. Turn on mac while still holding the keys from step 2

4. Go to the Utilities menu and select Terminal

5. At the prompt type ‘resetpassword’ (hit enter) This launches the Reset Password *****

once I select terminal it does not prompt me to type anything it in fact shows the following: -bash-3.2#

It will not prompt you. Once you open terminal you have to click on the window itself and it will let you type. Also this must be done from recovery .

When you migrated it makes a new account did you try logging out of your current account and then into the one you migrated? Go to the Apple Logo to Logout

Since you can actually log in your will have to reinstall the osx create a new user then do the migration ( which will create the user that was on your old mac). If you like i can call you and direct you through this.
