Greetings, My imac wireless keyboard does not type. I know

My imac wireless keyboard does not type. I know it connects to the computer as I can do caps lock. The mouse works fine.
A usb keyboard does not work either.
perhaps a virus.
any help would be apprecitated.

just plugged the wired keyboard in and it does the same thing as the wireless - I can wake it from hibernation with any key but cannot type any letters - caps lock symbol comes on.

  1. Shut down the computer.
  2. Unplug the computer's power cord.
  3. Wait fifteen seconds.
  4. Attach the computer's power cord.
  5. Wait five seconds, then press the power button to turn on the computer.
  6. Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys before the gray screen appears.
  7. Hold the keys down until the computer restarts.
  8. Release the keys.

Thanks for your reply, however the problem persists. I am unable to reset the pram as the keyboard is still not working appropriately.Could the motherboard have an issue?Bob

OK there was a chance the first part which resets the SMC might have allowed the keyboard to work. Go to System Preferences / Keyboard / Input Sources what is listed there?

If it is not correct or nothing is listed go to the Keyboard tab and click on Change Keyboard type.
