I have just moved my music files to my c drive so as to free up my external drive. Fortunately it was just before the ext HDD died. However although all the music files are now safe on my c: drive, itunes asked me to locate them one by one...which will take days. How can I get itunes to locate all the files and then sync certain playlists to my iPad and iPhone?

Hi, I will assist,

I'm sorry about the issue. Please try the following in iTunes program:

  1. Click on the Edit menu on the top, then click on Preferences.
  2. Click the Advanced tab.
  3. Click the Change button in the iTunes Media folder location pane.
  4. In the Change Media Folder Location window that appears, navigate to the location (where you had transferred the music files to) where you would like your new Media folder to be created.

Then connect the iPad to the computer
, then select the iPad device on the left in iTunes program
, then click on the Summary tab, then select the "Manually manage music and videos" or "Manually manage music."
, then click on the Music tab and select the playlists you want
, then sync

; do similar steps for the iPHone

More details:
(for iPod, but works for ipad and iphone also)

Please let me know if there is still any issue. Thank you

It seems to have worked but there is a bad duplication copy for every song now (the old location) How do I get rid of these?

Great. You can display the duplicate from File menu, and delete; please see full details at

Thank you

I think you gave me the apple menu...I'm running from an Acer laptop...which is where the duplicates occur not on the iPad. "File" doesnt give me a display duplicates option.

Sorry, I mean, File menu from iTunes program, what do you see? Thank you
Customer: replied 4 years ago.

Yes, that's the one I use. It's not like the one displayed at the URL you gave me...that looks like a Mac screen (from memory)

Yes, it's Mac screen, but it should be similar.

Or just try this: close iTunes program, then download and save the file RemoveDeadTracks.js file at the website below:

, then open/run that file, then re-open itunes program and check.

Please let me know. Thank you
