Do you have an available external hard drive?
yep i was just doing a backup on to a lacie hardrive whihch is taking a long time..but yes :)
You will have to drag and drops your folders like , music, pictures, documents , movies etc on to there and then manually drag and drop into the new one.
Yea its going to take quite sometime. With the new machine it will be much much faster when its taking in the data
yes i tested that out but was hoping there was a better way than that...also do you know how i can transfer my software this way - adobe suite and microsoft word etc
Most of your applications wont work on the new system anyway so Id skip that folder
WH]hat version of Microsoft Office are you using and Adobe?
The new system you have , 10.8 is very paticular on the versions it supports
ah right, ive got cs4 adobe and office 2004...in other words old!
This might be easier for you to view.
i guess i need to get updated and move in to the future!
2004 office will not work. For adobe says it MAY
However if you moved all the files properly it will still prompt for the serial number as it recognizes a new machine ID
so i'll give it a try and do i need to just drag the apps folder over and doubleclick and see what happens?
You will also need to move the Application Support folder ~/Library/ you can usually go to finder and then "go" then enter in what I had typed there
Should take you right to it. In mountain lion its hidden so you will have to do the same in the new machine
If the application in in compatible it will show a prohibitory symbol though the application icon
