Import to iphoto

Can see photos on camera

Canon Digital IXUS 100IS

Customer: replied 4 years ago.

Have run through the tutorial. Never had a problem before and followed all the procedures mentioned.

Expert:  Jins M. N. replied 4 years ago.
Hi Jacquelin, when you open iPhoto can you see other images you already with iPhoto ? Can you please give the exact error message you are getting while trying to import the images from the camera? Can you see your camera listed in iPhoto ?

Have nasty feeling I have never used iphoto before, just followed my normal procedure. Sorry to mislead you, but I am a dummy as far as computers are concerned. Normally I plug in the camera and click on transfer untransferred images and then just pick up the pictures from image browser. However now something called image capture has appeared in the dock. When I click on this nothing happens. When I click on camera window nothing happens. When I click on image browser a box appears and I have a feeling I was irritated that I clicked on Canon Image Gateway and then clicked download my camera contents. Hope this confuses you less than it does me.

I now need to be away from my computer for half an hour.

Customer: replied 4 years ago.

No error message at all but see other reply about iphoto 4.3.13 at 11.24 your time. My canon machine is definitely mentioned somewhere when pictures appear. When I ask for all images all pictures did come up previously now no pictures appear in the normal fashion but the newest ones I was trying to download do not appear, but are luckily still on the camera.

Customer: replied 4 years ago.

Are you still working on this or do I go somewhere else to find a solution?

Customer: replied 4 years ago.

I click on image browser. Double click Macintosh HD. Click today. Click Camera Window DC and message reads window cannot be opened. But click on Camera Window and nothing happens.

Are you still working on this problem or do I need to get advice from elsewhere.

Relist: Incomplete answer.
Waited more than an hour from my initial approach to Just Answer was dealing with Jinsmn

Hi Jacquelin first of all sorry for the delay in reply. Then thank you for the details. One more thing; please do not rate an answer as bad or poor, just reply me and wait for my responce. Surely I can help you. Otherwise I will optout this session. Rating a service bad or poor will affect my reputation.

Anyway now I know, you were using image capture instead of iphoto. Can you please try with iPhoto ?

Customer: replied 4 years ago.

have tried with iphoto and absolutely nothing happens when you click on the icon.

Expert:  Jins M. N. replied 4 years ago.
Okay please try the following, Open /Library/Image Capture/Devices/ folder. Drag the contents of that folder to your desktop. Now try to open image capture from the dock and connect the camera.

Reply me the result.

Absolutely nothing happens. I opened Library-Image Capture-Devices and draged the folder to the desktop. Image capture would not open. I have the camera turned on and plugged into computer.

Customer: replied 4 years ago.

message has just popped up saying

failed to open a session on the device

Expert:  Jins M. N. replied 4 years ago.
Okay, then please put back that folder from desktop to Devices folder. Now please try deleting the Image Capture preference file in your Users Library/Preferences folder. It is named com.apple.ImageCaptureApp.plist
Then open Disk Utility and repair permissions.

Repair Permissions

  1. Launch Disk Utility, located at /Applications/Utilities/.

  2. Select the ‘First Aid’ tab.

  3. In the left-hand pane, select a volume you wish to run Repair Permissions on. (Remember, the volume must contain a bootable copy of OS X.

  4. Click the ‘Repair Disk Permissions’ button.

Disk Repair will list any files that don’t match the expected permission structure. It will also attempt to change the permissions for those files back to the expected state. Not all permissions can be changed, so you should expect some files to always show up as having different permissions than expected.

Now try to open image capture and let me know the result.

Jins

I have no idea which keys to push to find users library/preferences. It is also getting very late here in France therefore if you can give me the dummies version of finding users library/preference etc I will try it tomorrow. Thanks for your help.

Click on the desktop, somewhere so it will apear "FINDER"... then.. to your right you will read " FILE EDIT VIEW GO WINDOW HELP"...

with the pointer click on the "GO" and stay there... then, and at the same time... press on the keyboard option key (the ones that say on the top "alt")... as long as you press this key.... you will see the "LIBRARY"

Got there in the end but there is definitely no listing for com.apple.ImageCaptureApp.plist

There are all sorts for cannon.ic installer, image browser etc

Expert:  Jins M. N. replied 4 years ago.
Okay, is there a folder named ImageBrowser or ImageBrowser Preferences ? If so drag that folder to the desktop. Then try to open image browser again. If it not helps, create a new Test user and check weather image browser is working while logined as that user or not.

To create a new user account, follow these steps:

1. Click the Apple icon then click System Preferences.
2. Click Accounts .
3. Click the Plus sign [ + ] in the lower left corner to open the new account window. Note If you are not the Administrator of the computer, to be able to add an account, click Click the lock to make changes. Login using your Administrator user name and password ***** then press OK .

4. Enter the word Test for the user name and leave the password ***** blank. Click the Create Account button. When you receive a warning, click OK .
5. Click to checkmark Allow User to Administer this computer (If you do not have this check mark, proceed to next step).
6. Click the Apple icon then click Logout out <Account name> of your original account.
7. Login with your Test account and test Office applications or try installing/reinstalling Office.

Let me know the result.

I have no idea how to test Office applications or try installing/reinstalling office.

I am now going to bed as it is very late. We will have to continue tomorrow.

Things have changed by the time I logged in this morning. I plugged in the camera and the message box said no images to transfer but all the pictures appeared as little boxes - the heading on top of the pictures says Camera Window DC. It appears that the computer is trying to scan these pictures but tried to scan them to documents and then this round multicoloured thing appeared on the screen and I have not been able to get rid of it to do anything with the pictures. Any idea what to do now.

Expert:  Jins M. N. replied 4 years ago.
Hi Jacquelin, are you able to open the image capture now ?

Regards
Jins
Customer: replied 4 years ago.

There is a large box headed image capture and below it flashing is a smaller message box saying

Trying to open scanner session. But the round coloured ball still flashes over the pictures and I cannot exit the pictures to clear the screen.

Expert:  Jins M. N. replied 4 years ago.

Do you have any printer or scanner connected ? If so disconnect it and try again. If it not helps, please create a new test user as on my previous suggestion. Then open image capture from that user account and let me know the result.

I need to go now but will be back soon.

Jins

Expert:  Jins M. N. replied 4 years ago.

Hello Sir, you need not worry. Create the user Test, then login as that test user. Now check the image capture. Then logoff the test user (apple button > log out or press Cmd+Shift+Q to log out)and login as the old user.

Jins
