I cannot get my new iPad4 to connect to my talktalk email address. What should I do?

I have followed the instructions on the webpage you've supplied, but at step 6 - ignore the O2 message - the next screen says -

The SMPT server 'smtp.talktalk.net' is not responding.

 

And I do not proceed to the Accounts' page as is indicated I should.

 

When I ignore this by clicking OK I get a 'New Account' screen with IMAP and POP at the top with POP highlighted

 

Then if I proceed I get 'cannot proceed using SSL. Do you want to set up an account withour SSL? What should I do?

Does the fact that I use talktalk as my email address BUT my ISP is BT have any effect on this?

That is the problem. You may not be able to access the email like that while you are not at your home network.

Are you able to sign into your TalkTalk account on the iPad by going to to: http://www.talktalk.co.uk/mail/?check_cookie=1

Yes - I can access my emails on the iPad via the link you provided.

In that case, you may only be able to access the Talktalk servers while you are on your home network.

Are you connecting to the Internet on your iPad via your home network?

Yes - via my BT Home Hub

Please, do me a very large favor. It looks like your DNS setup is faulted.

Please, unplug the power to your BT Home hub, wait 10 seconds, plug it back in, reconnect to it wirelessly, and run through the instructions on the page I gave you earlier.

Outgoing Server: smpt.talktalk.net

The correct outgoing server is smtp.talktalk.net

It is not "smpt"

You're quite right - I typed it wrongly. The setting is indeed set at SMTP

Still 'Can't find the server' - but I think I'll have to give up on this and try and find a solution elsewhere. Thanks for trying.
