Okay, this is just your Apple ID password.
You should be able to reset your password XXXXX the site, from your computer: http://iforgot.apple.com/
The ID itself should be the email address you listed.
Once you have the Apple ID and have reset the password, test out that it is working properly by signing into the Apple ID management site:https://appleid.apple.com/
(Click "Manage Your Apple ID")
It should then work on the iPad.
If still having trouble entering this password XXXXX the iPad, you can try a reset:
Press and hold your Sleep/Wake button (on the top) and Home button (on the front) together for around 10 seconds.
When your screen goes black, release both buttons.
The next thing you should see are the Apple logo followed by the home screen or setup assistant.
