If the login password (from power on) is entered incorrectly

This answer was rated:

If the login password (from power on) is entered incorrectly and fails to authenticate will the macbook air block any further attempts?

Thanks
Ray

Steve Herrod :

Hi, I'll be happy to help with this question

Steve Herrod :

is this logging on to the actual macbook itself or to a wireless network for example via the Macbook Air?

Steve Herrod :

for both scenarios an incorrect password XXXXX block access but it would be possible to attempt further entries of the password

Customer:

Macbook itself.

So you could use a password XXXXX program to eventually gain access?

By the way I am not asking for the name of any cracking tools. It is a case that we had several macbook airs stolen and I am trying to determine the risk factor.

Steve Herrod :

well, if you have physical access then yes it's possible to gain access

Steve Herrod :

easiest solution is to connect the hard drive to another system and access from there

Steve Herrod :

which would get past the password XXXXX

Steve Herrod :

so encryption should be used if possible

Steve Herrod :

that would be the best way to safeguard data on mobile machines

Steve Herrod :

let me know if you need further details too

Steve Herrod :

Cheers

Steve Herrod :
