i have a macbook pro 15 late 2011 with lion 10.7.3 and parallels

Resolved Question:

i have a macbook pro 15 late 2011 with lion 10.7.3 and parallels 7 with windows platform and everything works great but it will not shut off. The loading gear just keeps going and have to do force shut down with on off button. Called apple and did a few things like safe mode and problem although it seemed had gone away did not. Tried applejack and seemed to go away but did not.

What do i do short of sending back to apple.

CompExpert :

hi,

CompExpert :

force power download your computer

CompExpert :

power on hold command, option(alt), P and R. hold all four keys down

CompExpert :

until your computer reboot

Customer:

i did this with apple and although it shut down properly after that once or twice the problem resumed again.

CompExpert :

i mean it does shut off the system completely right

CompExpert :

do you have verizon manager running on your system?

Customer:

when i do a shut down the system does not shut down - the loading gear on the grey screen with the apple keeps going round and round. then i shut down by the on off button and it shuts down. the command option p and r command seems to correct the problem for the present and then it returns. i also did the applejack program and it moved a misplaced kernel into the proper position and then it seemed to be fixed. but again the problem returned. i even reprogrammed with lion os 10.7.3 from the apple app store and the problem still persisted.

Customer:

no verizon manager. just wifi.

CompExpert :

in order to track down which one

CompExpert :

Go > Utilities > Activity Monitor

CompExpert :

open activity monitor up

CompExpert :

you have to test one by one

CompExpert :

and track down which application that running that caused the problem

CompExpert :

then remove it or uninstall it

Customer:

how do i do that. i am in the activity monitor.

CompExpert :

also, did you remember when this start happening?

CompExpert :

go to system memory

CompExpert :

you can see what application is running

Customer:

a problem i think from the beginning. even before i installed parallels.

Customer:

ok in memory

CompExpert :

you see all the application that currently running right

CompExpert :

check see which app you know running the most memory

Customer:

yes

CompExpert :

try to force shut down those

CompExpert :

then restart your computer see if that fix it

CompExpert :

if it doesnt

CompExpert :

go back to activity monitor

CompExpert :

i guess you understand my method here right?

Customer:

ok will try

CompExpert :

you might need to be a little patient

CompExpert :

but you will find the source of the problem

CompExpert :

I'll be here, if you need me, for now keep testing

CompExpert :

also, another way is go to this directory Library/LaunchAgents

in there you see a lot of .plist file

pulled each of them to desktop and test which one caused the problem

CompExpert :

if you anti virus software like com.kaspersky.kav.gui.plist

CompExpert :

plug those first

Customer:

there is com.apple.AddressBook.Sched.plist and com.google.keystone.agent.plist

Customer:

how do you plug

CompExpert :

im sorried, i meant pull those first

Customer:

i have icloud enabled could this be the problem

Customer:

this is in the apple.plist:

Customer:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?><!DOCTYPE plist PUBLIC "-//Apple//DTD PLIST 1.0//EN" "http://www.apple.com/DTDs/PropertyList-1.0.dtd"><plist version="1.0"><dict> <key>Label</key> <string>com.apple.AddressBook.ScheduledSync.PHXCardDAVS ource.AF45A72B-E247-4CFC-80EB-8F5ED417EC06</string> <key>ProgramArguments</key> <array> <string>/System/Library/Frameworks/AddressBook.framework/Resources/AddressBookSourceSyncScheduleHelper</string> <string>-scheduleSync</string> <string>AF45A72B-E247-4CFC-80EB-8F5ED417EC06</string> </array> <key>StartInterval</key> <integer>120000</integer></dict></plist>

CompExpert :

im not sure, try to disable icloud just for now

CompExpert :

apple.plist is not the problem

Customer:

i disabled icloud really didnt use it anyway

CompExpert :

im glad you're a very patient person

CompExpert :

so hard to solve this kind of problem without being extremely patient

Customer:

There is now intego, kaspersky, and parallels.plist's.

CompExpert :

take out karspersky.plist

Customer:

and parallels is not on.

Customer:

ok

CompExpert :

you can always put in back on the next boot up

Customer:

it is on desktop what next

CompExpert :

see if it correct your problem

Customer:

will try

CompExpert :

okay

Customer:

kaspersky plist on desktop seems to fix the problem.

CompExpert :

great, im glad

Customer:

so does this mean get rid of kaspersky. Kaspersky on my imac doesnt do this. what is a good replacement program

CompExpert :

to be honest, virus software is more like a scam

CompExpert :

is like a cat and mouse game

Customer:

even on windows

CompExpert :

usually new virus come out

CompExpert :

yes

CompExpert :

new virus come out

CompExpert :

usually take 1-2 months before the software have a fix on it

Customer:

ok so uninstall kaspersky?

CompExpert :

by that time

CompExpert :

yes

CompExpert :

that should fix your problem

Customer:

ok will do thanks

CompExpert :

mac is really safe on virus problem

CompExpert :

so dont worried

CompExpert :

please click accept. thank you

Customer:

even with parallels windows platform?

CompExpert :

no you might need virus program on windows

CompExpert :

since is format in ntfs

CompExpert :

mac used unix format

CompExpert :

so if more safer

Customer:

well that is where the kaspersky is on the windows platform. should i just use the windows security now offered for free by microsoft?

CompExpert :

but best way is just be careful on where you go or download online

CompExpert :

yes

CompExpert :

windows 7 does have it

Customer:

ok
