I am trying to upload a video of my late husband into imovie

Customer Question

I am trying to upload a video of my late husband into imovie so I can make a short clip. I've exhausted all my resources and have tried everything. I tried converting the file to a M4v and a mov. I tried uploading it from my desktop, itunes and iphoto. Nothing works. I've downloaded Handbrake and that allowed me to at least get the footage on my computer, but it is crucial I am able to work with the file in imovie. What are your suggestions?

Hello, my name is Dan.
I will do my best to help you, the only stupid question is the unasked one.

From your question I assume that the video is on DVD, correct?
Which version of iMovie?
I do know what will work, I use it myself for doing just what you are trying to do.
This will work using most off the shelf DVD players and VCRs.
Best buy has it for the same price, probably on the shelf.
Import with that, once you quit recording it will ask what you want to do next, iMovie is a choice.
If you can use the S-video port for both out from and into, gives better quality video, most players ill have that port.
I am sorry for the loss of your mate.
Hope that helps, if you run into difficulty please ask me.

Version 8.0.6 I've already paid to convert the VHS footage to DVD. So this is not what I need. I need to be able to import the footage that I have on my mac into imovie.
I just figured out how to upload it from itunes. Please do not charge my account as this site was not helpful. Thanks.

Please cancel and clear out my balance. Please not that the expert who tried to answer my question did not help and added a religious response at the end of his email that was offensive. Thanks.
