Hello Sue, my name is Dan.
I will do my best to help you, the only stupid question is the unasked one.

Which version of OS X do you have?
When was the last software update?
Have you repaired permissions?
Customer: replied 6 years ago.
Version 10.6.6
I don't know
and I don't know how to repair permissions
sorry not much help.
Expert:  Daniel replied 6 years ago.
You are doing fine.
You do need to update to 10.6.8 and this PDF explains permissions.
Safari is at 5.1, you have 5.0.3, 5.1 made some big changes both in appearance and under the hood.

I do suggest the permissions repair before doing anything else, including the Apple update.
That is in the Apple menu called Software update in case you don't know that.
I would assume you did because you indulged info that most people have no idea about.
The log does have useful info and it could mean a new install of Safari, the update may fix it.

Do that and get back to me with the results please.
Customer: replied 6 years ago.
ok I did the system preference fix and now trying to down load the new soft ware however it says it will take 2 hours to install, however the installation failed so I am now checking to see if I can install again it said I was not connected to the internet (which I am) When it was going to install it said it will take 2 hours
so what do we do now?
Expert:  Daniel replied 6 years ago.
What kind of internet connection do you have?
That was Permissions repair, what did you do in System Preferences?
Customer: replied 6 years ago.
I am at a hotel, the router is in my room, broad band but it does not work that great they moved a new router to my room so I can be connected better they will be doing a system update soon. now update is saying 5 hours.

I think I followed the directions, i went to the magnifing glass and typed it what it said and then fixed the hard drive.
Expert:  Daniel replied 6 years ago.
Ok, try Safari now and if it crashes again wait for the router and do the updates. Then get back to me when you can.

Customer: replied 6 years ago.
I can do that while it is updating won't that crash the update and I will have to start again for the 5th time?
it now says 4 to 5 hours to finish up date.
Expert:  Daniel replied 6 years ago.
I would stop it, it is not installing at this time, it is only downloading. It will be interrupted anyway when they come to give you a new router.
It will pick up where it left off.

Customer: replied 6 years ago.
ok it seems to be working better, now, I did not chat and play the at the same time. because it is so late. thanks for your help I will the continue the update.
Expert:  Daniel replied 6 years ago.
I am signing off now and will check back in the AM. Let me know how it goes.
Customer: replied 6 years ago.
ok have a good night, I need to get to sleep, I started the update it is up to 7 hours now!!!
Expert:  Daniel replied 6 years ago.
Like I said, you can stop it and it will pick up where it stopped later, or let it go overnight.
