My microsoft word is not responding. I click and nothing happens. I try and open a document that I have reduced and nothing happens.

I purchased my macbook pro in 2008 and word was on it. Maybe that can help you with the version

No, it's only on my dock. I also have 4 documents on my dock that I cannot open.
You can try to Force Quit from Finder. Press Command + Option + Esc keys on your Keyboard and this will bring the Force Quit window. From Force Quit window, select Word and click Force Quit. That will Force Quit word...

BTW, If it is frozen, you must Force Quit it. Let me know if that didn't worked. Only click Accept after it worked

Yes..It won't happen frequently unless the Word program is corrupted. Does it happens frequently ?
