I'm trying to enter sequential dates into a spreadsheet. After entering a date (Cell A4) I go to the next cell and I enter like this =A4+1 I get #VALUE! What does that mean and what am I doing wrong?

Most likely the date that you entered in A1 is the wrong format

Select A1 thru A9

Clear the content in that range

While A1 thru A9 are still selected format the selection as date (e.g. 3/14/2011)

Type 1/1/11 in cell A1 and hit Return

Type =A1+1 in cell A2

Now it should work
