If you installed Find My iPhone and had it enabled before you lost it, you can go to and locate your device. If you did not have it installed or the thief has did a DFU restore on the device, you will not be able to locate it.

If that is the case, I would contact your local police authorities with the serial number and ESN of the iPhone so if anyone tried to pawn it, they would be flagged. Also you should go to your local Verizon store with the police report and request they either track the device via the ESN or shut off the phone and blacklist the ESN.
