how do you input the the phone number i want to text i am

how do you input the the phone number i want to text? i am getting a message that it is an invalid number and put in a valid 10 digit cell number - i am. looks like this for local call xxx-xxx-xxxx

Okay, first tap the messages icon, it looks like this:

Next, tap the "Compose Message" icon, it looks like this (circled in red):

Next tap the "To:" field, you should see a blinking cursor in "To:" field.

Next, at the bottom-left hand corner of the screen, tap the button labeled "_123". The keyboard should change to numbers across the top and symbols in the middle. Use the numbers to type in your number. You do NOT need to type a +1, just type the 10 digit phone number.

Then tap the message field, shown in red in the image below. Type your message and tap "Send".
