The blinking light is okay, it just means that your keyboard is on and is trying to pair (synchronize) itself with your Mac. The lights should turn off after a few minutes.

Turn on your iMac so your keyboard can pair with it. Then you should be able to use your keyboard like you were before replacing the batteries.
