Some of my Excel files will not open.

Some of my Excel files will not open.

First try to launch the excel application, then from within excel use the File > Open command to open the file. Does the file open this way?

Customer: replied 6 years ago.

Ok, could you send me one of the files that cannot be opened so I can take a look at it. To send the file go to and upload the file there (no need to sign up). You will then get a page that has the File ID and Download Link. Copy either the File ID or the Download Link and come back here and paste it in your reply.

If the file has sensitive information you can either replace the sensitive data with dummy values, or let me know before you upload it.

Ok, check this version

Let me know how it goes

sorry, file will not open

1- Are you able to open other excel files?

2- Which version of Excel are you running

3- Was this file created by another version

4- Close all Excel files and applications, then go to where that file is stored and double click its icon. What happens when you do that

Yes i can open several other files. There are some others that will not open. These are spreadsheets of my check book. The files CC51001-06, CC50906-12 will also not open. The file you are working on i used yesterday. All of these file were created using the version listed below.

I am using Excel 2004 version11.6.1

The files are stored on my hard drive. I can not open the files from there.

Ok could you make sure that you have the latest Excel 2004 updates installed. This could very well be the cause.
