Resolved Question:

OK, I never got an answer to my last question, let's try again. I connected up a brand new WD 1TB external drive to an Imac OS10.5.8 operating under Time Machine and it seemed to be copying the internal drive just fine as I continued to use the computer it stopped (error message) at about 20GB. Effort to unplug and reboot and select back up now on Time Machine failed to make it resume. What to do?

Do you remember that error message ?

"Unable to complete backup. An error occurred while copying files to the backup volume." from Time Machine.

Okay...we can try to reformat your WD 1TB in Disk Utility as Mac Partition and try Time Machine again.

  • Goto Applications/Utilities/ folder and open DiskUtility
  • Now connect your hard drive into your Mac
  • Select the WD HD in the left column
  • At the “Volume Format” select “Mac OS Journaled/Extended”
  • If you confirm to format your hard disk, Click on “Erase” button.
  • If the erase process finished, close Disk Utility.
  • Setup Time Machine again and see if it still giving you errors

(Formatting will erase everything from your WD HD)
