I just tried to change a phone number in my Address Book program

I just tried to change a phone number in my Address Book program and got a message:
"Couldn't open the Address sBook database. The database is corrupted."

What does that mean and how do I fix. Many thanks.
hello there! I would love to help. All you have to do is move the entire AddressBook folder, not just its contents, from Home/Library/Application Support to dekstop then attempt to save again. This should create a new database.

I found my address book backup from last August, but no current file folder. I moved the backup to the desktop and then tried to move it (there is no "save" option that I can find) back to the address book. I get message that they cannot open the Address book.
