I am trying to listen to radio programing that requires Silv

Customer Question

I am trying to listen to radio programing that requires Silverlight 2 by Microsoft. I run a G5 iMac with OS X,4,11.
When I downloaded Silverlight 2 from Microsoft, I received a message that Silverlight cannot be run because I do not have plug-in MIME type application/X Silverlight -2. I have tried using Safari, FireFox and Omniweb, although I prefer Safari.

Can you tell me where I can obtain the required Mime plug-in. I have googled the problem and received suggestions to use Persey which didn't work.

Thank you very much!

I have followed specific instructions for getting around the installation problem by deleting "installation check" from the pkg before installing it. These instructions were found at
http://www.tech-recipes.com/rx/3707/mac-os-x-install-silverlight-2-on-non-intel-systems-ie-powerpc-or-osx86-installs/

However, Silverlight still doesn't work.

I have followed all instructions for the installation of Flip4mac but although flip4mac opens in QuickTime, it will not launch the Silverlight player. If It helps any, here is a link to the media I wish to play.

I am a member of On Demand and have twice written to their tech assistance but they, apparently, do not answer their email messages. I have spent inordinate amounts of time working on this but it seems hopeless. I'm close to giving up and canceling the service.

Thank you for your help but I'm beginning to think that the problem id unsolvable.

Ok,

Can you tell me what browser you are using?

Thanks

I replied earlier today but I'll repeat myself. I installed flip4mac according to directions. I made certain that the browser preference was checked. I still could not use the Silverlight player to listen to the radio programs. If it helps, the content I wish to hear is on this site.

I have spent and inordinate amount of time trying to solve this problem. I am about to give up and cancel my membership. I have written to their tech support twice in the past 3 weeks but they have not responded. Is this a hopeless problem?

Thanks.

Ok,

I saw your reply earlier and I was wondering which web browser you are using to access the site with?

Thanks

I have tried using Safari, FireFox and Omniweb. Silverlight plays on none of them. My preferred browser is Safari.

Ok,

Can you try redownloading the Safari silverlight.dmg from here then reinstalling it and let me know if you still have the same issues after you reboot http://tiny.cc/4R7Cy

Thanks

I tried the download but I received a message that Silverlight 3 cannot be installed on this computer.

In fact, I was told that Silverlight 3 cannot be used on power p c computers.
Expert:  Claws224 replied 7 years ago.

Ok,

In that case we need to try and load Silverlight 1.0 onto your machine as it was the only version that was supported by PPC.

Can you try downloading this version from Filehippo and let me know if it will load http://www.filehippo.com/download_silverlight/3850/

Thanks

This is a windows only download. It had an ex extension. I just spoke to someone at Air America radio and was told that only Silverlight 3 will work on their site and that is unavailable for power p c s.

He told me that I can listen to online streaming on iTunes but there is no way to listen to the On Demand content without Silverlight 3. Therefore, I have canceled my membership.

Thank you for your great effort. I'm sorry that you had to spend so much time on it. However, I'm giving up the quest.

Ok,

Sorry that I was not able to help you get this sorted out, Hopefully Air America will change their policy and make their programming available to the Mac majority in the future.

Thanks
