I just downloaded an update for Office 2008 on my mac powerbook

Customer Question

I just downloaded an update for Office 2008 on my mac powerbook g4 with 2.66 ghz Intel Core 2 duo running version 10.5.7. After the update finished and was installed, I tried to open Entourage. It would not open and gave me an error message. I tried to relaunch without success. I then rebooted my mac and tried again...but got the same result. Other Office programs open fine, but Entourage refuses to come alive. Any suggestions/solutions? Help!

One thing to try is hold down the Option key (alt key) on your keybaord as soon as you click to open Entourage.

You will get a window asking if you want to rebuild the database. Choose Advanced Rebuild and then let it go.

When done, quit. and then try Entourage again.

Thanks for the suggestion, Mike...but I'm afraid that didn't work. I did as you suggested to rebuild the data base, which took some time to do. I started the rebuild last night and let it run through the night...then tried to open it this morning after it finished. It looked for a moment like it might work, as the "opening page" seemed to stay on a little longer...but then I got the same message which is:

The application Microsoft Entourage quite unexpectedly. Mac OS X and other applications are not affected

Click Relaunch to launch the application again. Click Report to see more details or to send a report to Apple.

Trying to Relaunch results in the same message. I will copy the report below. Any further suggestions appreciated...Chuck Leavell

Then what I recommend is you use the Remove Office tool located in the Additional Tools folder in yur Microsoft Office Folder. See pic:

Once that is done, restart and then re-install Office from your Original disk and then update it before running anything. Open Word (do not open Entourage yet) and choose Check for updates from Help Menu.

Because of MS's wierd way of upgrading, you will have to run Office Update several times (I think) until it says your Office is up to date. Each time, open Word, not Entourage until it finishes.

Then try Entourage again.

Appreciate your help, but your answer may not have been the best possible solution. I am working with another expert and I believe that he will have a much better solution. Sorry, but while you obviously displayed a genuine concern and gave what I would classify as decent advice, my problem was not solved in the best possibly way. Good luck and all the best, Chuck
