Try this just to make sure nothing got reset to default

Go to system prefs/sound and switch from internal speakers to the soundsticks.

Let me know the outcome please

Soundsticks are no longer anoption under output. The only listing is Internal Speakers.

That is the issue then....do you have your soundstick drivers

Can't locate the drivers. Can I download what I need?
Expert:  sandypcnut1 replied 8 years ago.

the easy way to fix this is to remove the update
Customer: replied 8 years ago.
That might be the easy way but I like the new features. If there is a driver out there that would be preferred.

go to the site above this will show you the path to update all the software you have on your mac. There are no updates for the sticks...the way to update on a mac is with the mac updates.

try this site for your drivers, but I am not sure this will fix your issue

Customer: replied 8 years ago.
I just found a site that said that the drivers are loaded on the system when the soundsticks are attached and turned on. So, I unplugged the sticks and removed the usb connection and then reversed the process.   The option for soundsticks then appeared in the sound output preference. I selected it and, tahdah, they now work.

Thanks for your help. Your questions helped me rethink my process.
