when using my ibook g4 on ebay some of the listings show up with symbols instead of letters for all the words, how do i fix this

What Internet browser are you using? Safari, Firefox

What OS are you running? ie. 10.4.11 or 10.5.6

If you click on the Apple icon at the top left and Choose about this mac. It will tell you the version.

was resetting these the fix?? i tried it and it didnt help
The reset is a good place to start. The encoding method could also be off or it could be a font issue.

Please try the following:

The default encoding method for display characters may be set to something other than Western (ISO Latin 1).   If so, do the following:

In Safari, click on Safari at the top left, then click Preferences...
Click Apperance
Change the Default Encoding to Western (ISO Latin 1) then close the window with the red X at the top left.

Restart Safari

i changed to iso latin 1,,didnt help,,,,only some of the listings come up with symbols instead of letters and some appear ok,,,on criags list all the listings are symbols but the home page display is ok,,,its like
some are encrypted but the ibook doesnt display them correctly

I apologize for the late response.   Can you try deleting the Safari preference file?

Click on the smily face all the way on the left-hand side of your dock.

This will bring up your home folder.   Go into a folder called Library and then another folder called Preferences.

Delete the file called

Test again.

Also if you download   Do you get the same symbols on a website?

This will help see if it is a Safari issue or a font issue.
