There seems to be several issues that cause this so let's step through them.

Make sure GarageBand is closed. Please use the Go mnu and choose Home. Open the Library folder followed by the Preferences folder. Please delete the following files:

Relaunch GarageBand and let me know if you still recieve this error.

Hi BeeBoo:

I did what you said and garageband opened, I still am getting this message for the audio midi setup: Audio MIDI Setup was unable to launch the MIDI Server. This means that you will be unable to view or edit your MIDI configurations. I was gonna erase the logic plists, but then thought I should wait for your response prior to trying anything else.

Thanks so much,

Hey also, now that garageband opens, when i try to access the piano lesson installed with it the infamous "GarageBand has detected a possible conflict between one or more third party MIDI or audio drivers." returned after a short while with our favorite rainbow wheel. I think an avatar of a kid sticking his tongue at us would be more appropriate then a rainbow. right!?

I'm sure that can be arranged to have your spinning rainbow changed. ;x

Do you use iChat at all? There is a possible confict with the latest version of iChat that, for some reason, messes with MIDI settings.

Let me know,
