my display option has disappeared from the system preferences.

my display option has disappeared from the system preferences. nor can i locate its pref pane

Are you saying that when you click System Preference that the Displays icon as shown below is missing?

One step to cure.

DELETE the
(your user)/Library/Caches/com.apple.preferencepanes.cache file,

then logout and log back in. That should rebuild it.


In future you can always go to
/System/Library/PreferencesPanes and open the Displays.prefPane file directly,

i ttried the suggestion and no help. i locatyed tthe pref file and clicked on it and got some printed display in a window but not an open program

I tried the suggested deletion and logout/in and no help. I went to the cache library and found the driver pref, but clicking on it produced a text window and not the pane.
