I just bought a new Apple Extreme base station. I connect to the internet on my G4 PowerBook, via ethernet to a router, which is connected to my DSL Modem. The PowerBook is supposed to have an Airport card within it. Do I need to physically connect the base station to the router with an ethernet cable, or will it connect via the airport card in the already connected PowerBook?
You need to connect the router to the base station via an ethernet cable.
