how do i move a file from one place to another without having it copy? I used to use windows and it has a cut feature which moves it instead of copying it.

If you are used to the Windows shortcuts then here are the Mac equivalents for you for cutting etc the contents of a file.

Command + X for Cut,

Command + C for Copy

Command + V for Paste

If you wish to cut and paste a file then you drag it like normal to its desired location.

Command+drag = cut and paste

Option+command+drag=create shortcut.
