After a number of years I fired up my Power mac G3.

After a number of years I fired up my Power mac G3. I''m having a real problem finding writable cd''s that the g3 will open. I can''t even initialise new disc''s. They''re ejected as locked. can you advise?

What model of CD burner is in the G3?

just a plain old 24x cdrom drive!

The most common reason that the old G3 Power Macs have problems reading burned CDs, is due to a dirty laser lens. Burned CDs don't have as defined grooves as commercially stamped ones, so the dirty lens cannot read them.

To clean the lens, you need to purchase a CD/DVD lens cleaner such as this one:

You can find these in almost any office supply store, Wal-mart or Target.
