Cant browse IIS intranet site from Mac OSX

Customer Question

I''m trying to browse an intranet web site from a mac osx and I''m always getting "site not found". What am I doing wrong?

The web site is being hosted on IIS.
The IIS server isn''t in a domain.

I can browse the website from a pc using IE. (from pc''s in the domain and outside domain)

From the MAC I can ping the (webserver) at

I''ve tried editing the /etc/hosts file with the address and the servername on the MAC. (nothing)

I''ve tried browsing the site with the IP address.. nothing.

Any thoughts?

I should mention that the site I'm trying to access is a Sharepoint site that uses variations but I don't think this is relevant becasue I can access the site from a windows box outside the domain.

Could you tell us what OS is running the IIS service?

Are you hosting from a mac or a pc?

how are you trying to open the pages you wish to access?

What address or ip format are you using to address the pages, such as ?

Let us know a little more detail.

Update to follow in the reply
Customer: replied 9 years ago.
The IIS is running in Win2003 Enterprise.
Hosting in PC - Win2003 Enterprise.
Trying to access the pages with: (ip address)

I tried accessing via computer name but the Mac OSX can't seem to find the computer. I can ping it but only by ip. I tried editing the hosts file but still can't seem to ping the machine via computer name.

Hope this helps.

How are the machines connected?

Is your mac hardwired or wireless?

What happens if you try to address the server via localhost ?

Let me know

Customer: replied 9 years ago.
All machines are connected via network cables though a hub. Nothing wireless.

On the Mac (non webserver machine) I get nothing when i type (or //localhost) because there isn't an apache server setup.

On the Win2003 machine I get the default website when I type (or //localhost)
