Battery light came on with a new battery then whole car lost

Customer Question

Battery light came on with a new battery then whole car lost power. Seems to happen when it rains. Put new alternator in last year.
JA: Is the power loss consistent, or does it fluctuate?
Customer: Just started happening. First battery light came on for a few days then lost all power
JA: What is the model/year of your Lexus?
Customer: Lx470
JA: What year is your Lexus?
Customer: 2000
JA: Are you fixing your vehicle yourself? What have you tried so far?
Customer: First got new alternator at Lexus last year. Battery died and thought it was starter but first go new battery. The new battery lasted a week before the light came on and then power died. Do notice this happens with wet weather.
JA: Anything else you want the mechanic to know before I connect you?

Do you have a volt meter to do some testing?

Customer: replied 8 months ago.
Can probably get one. What should we test?

It seems the alternator is bad based on the symptoms. You would have to jump start the car and while idling test the voltage at the battery. You should see any where from 13.5 volts to 14.5 volts if alternator is working. Anything less than 13 volts your alternator is not working.
