Customer Question

2008 Lexus is250 will not crank/start. I removed negative battery cable for 30 seconds. Reconnected cable and car started , but died after 5 seconds. Tried to restart, but it will not crank/start. Tried to reset security described in owners manual, but still will not start.

Hi Im David, thanks for visiting the site. does the red security light go out when attempting to start?

Customer: replied 11 months ago.
No. it is flashing
Expert:  david craig replied 11 months ago.

do you have another key?

Customer: replied 11 months ago.
but my daughter has it at her house.
Expert:  david craig replied 11 months ago.

that is going to be needed. until you try another key i wont be able to tell you if its an immobilizer issue or not. but let me look up a reset procedure for anyway..

Customer: replied 11 months ago.
Ok! She's bringing key after church service
Expert:  david craig replied 11 months ago.

ok great. the reset procedure is only to take it to the dealer and have them reset it with there diagnostic computer. sometimes disconnecting the battery (both terminal) touching them together for 15 seconds then reconnecting them works, but with a very low success rate.

Ok

Tried touching negative and positive for 15 sec. did not work
Expert:  david craig replied 11 months ago.

ok, has she arrived with the key yet?

Customer: replied 11 months ago.
Nope
Expert:  david craig replied 11 months ago.

ok .let me know and hopefully it works because i would hate for you to have to get it to a dealership and cost you more money.

Customer: replied 11 months ago.
Extra key would not work either

Hello
Expert:  david craig replied 11 months ago.

sorry, had to run out with the family for a while

Expert:  david craig replied 11 months ago.

ok. one last try before sending you to the dealership. make sure the battery has a full charge of 12.5 volts

once you have a good level of charge in the battery try turning on the ignition for 6 minutes, then remove the key and then try to start the car again
the reason for leaving the ignition on for 6mins is so the codes in the anti theft ecu and your master key can resyncronise.
When this is complete the immobiliser light on the dash will go out. then you turn ignition off and you should be able to start the vehicle if there are no other problems.

Customer: replied 11 months ago.
I do not have a conventional key slot, just the start button
Expert:  david craig replied 11 months ago.

you'll just push the start button on and leave it that way for 6 minutes.

Customer: replied 11 months ago.
Expert:  david craig replied 11 months ago.

when the 6 minutes is up ,push the start/stop button to off. then try to start.

Customer: replied 11 months ago.
Okay

Nothing changed

unfortunately you will need to have the vehicle taken to the dealership to have the immobilizer/ecm/transponder system reprogrammed. sorry i couldnt give you better news. we tried.
