Have a real estate sale problem. CA. Sale of my property. In
In 2005 my city implemented a sewer system and eliminated our septic tank system. The system was attached to a Utility Water System which installed meters to requlate the sewage and water. If we installed the meters at the time the cost would be minimal and placed on a loan which the city would carry and which would follow the property. All placed on our taxes. My property a five unit has three addresses; two the of addresses contain two units and one is a small house, in total five units. The Utility company placed a meter on only one address at the time and apparently failed to install meters on the other addresses. I just sold the property and the utility company is not allowing the transfer of water into the new owners name. Reason is they want $5,000 per meter to install into the property because they failed earlier to install the meters. They say total maybe as much as $20,000. Here are my questions! The new owner had a full inspection done on the property before purchasing. Is she responsible for the meters cost? The Utilties company say we are responsible and if we are shouldn't we be charged according to the contract we had with them and the city? At the time of the contracts if we signed early we could get a cheap price on meters etc..but if we sign later its penalty would be $5,0000..We signed early and they installed there meter etc...who's at fault? and can we get lower price and on our contract?… read more
