I have questions surrounding the Families First Act and how
I have questions surrounding the Families First Act and how it will impact my small business. I own a small behavioral healthcare business with 8 employees plus myself. I see the act exempts healthcare companies, but cannot find the definition of healthcare for this act to know if behavioral health (we provide therapy for children with autism) is included. Second, I see that companies with under 50 employees may qualify for exemption by the Dept. of Labor, but I have been unable to find the requirements for that or how to request the exemption. Third, I'm trying to understand the tax credit scenario. If we were able to pay some amount of leave, is it all reimbursed, or only the amount up to what we would pay in payroll taxes. (I believe the paid leave would far exceed the amount we pay in payroll tax). Lastly, would these paid leave provisions apply to workers who have been temporarily furloughed because their clients have cancelled sessions? (Furloughed meaning they are not receiving their hourly pay, but I am still paying their health benefits.). Thanks for any guidance!
