Lanlord issues during pandemic. California. I have lived at
I have lived at my home for 1 year, my then boyfriend and I rented it together. I paid my half of the rent directly to my boyfriend. Right before the pandemic my boyfriend sexually assaulted me. I didn't know what to do, I called the sexual assault hotline and they helped me come up with ideas because I wanted to leave him. He said he would move but then the pandemic hit, he stayed for 2 months and finally moved, I was free. 2 weeks later the property manager wrote and said all utilities and rent was late, that "we" had signed an agreement about rent and covid, I never signed anything, my signature was forged.I called her and explained everything, she had me sign a new agreement, she said I needed to pay all utilities now and full rent, plus additional monies owed and she would let me stay till February. I agreed because I had no place to go but also I couldn't afford it because I'm a military widow and my newly opened business is struggling because of covid. So I started selling my possessions to pay rent and borrowed money. The prop manager calls me 2 weeks ago and tells me I have 30 days to move, the owner is selling and my lease is up Aug 30 so I have to move anyways. I told her I spent all my money on rent and I don't have any money to move. She said, can you buy it for high 500's? I told her I didn't know that I'd have to call a lender and she said well your a eidow you have a VA loan. I said yes, but I dont know how much it is for and she said she'd call me back. So, she calls me back a few days later and says write up a proposal and say you'll buy the house for $615,000 and prove how you'll do that and you'll most likely be able to stay in the house. So because I had to move if I didn't I wrote it up. Then waited and waited...finally I started texting and emailing asking her to please tell me if I can stay that it's almost the first of the month. … read more
