Century Link internet offered...

Century Link internet offered me $500 in reward cards to switch from Comcast Cable and said that I could deposit the $ directly into my checking account. I switched to Century link. 3 days after I switched, I received the cards $300 and $200 and on the bottom of each card its written that "ignorer to redeem the card funds, I would need to deposit $15K in a CITI Bank account and keep it in that account for one year. Is this a scam? What can I do?

This seems very odd. I would proceed with caution and call Century Link directly and ask them about this. I say this because it is not uncommon for reward cards to be given by changing over and using a new provider BUT I have never heard of you need to open a Citi Bank account and deposit 15k. If anything, they may say you need to keep the account active for X amount of time, to get the reward card but this is odd and I have never heard of opening a bank account and depositing this amount for a cable provider and to get a reward card.

Well, you hav heard it now. Re-read my initial question - it says that I will have to leave the $15K in a CITI bank account for 1 year. I talked with the Century link tech and he said, "That's the way it is, I can't do anything about it.'
Lawyer: LegalKnowledge, Attorney replied 3 months ago

Yes, I did read it and as I shared, I think this is odd and I would refuse. If this condition was not disclosed when you agreed to switch over and was only told after the fact and you relied on it, you could have a basis to rescind and cancel the contract.

I choose not to call you for the $59 fee. The cards did not come in the mail until 3 days after the new service was installed. I want to keep the new service as it will save me $1K over the next 2 years.
Lawyer: LegalKnowledge, Attorney replied 3 months ago

Yes, if you want to keep the new service, you can. The cards were an incentive/promotion to get you to sign up but if you do not want to deposit the money, reframe from doing so. You can also call them up and complain about this and ask if they will waive the condition or provide you with some other sign up bonus since this was never disclosed.
