Can a woman who is married from another country. But does

Customer Question

Can a woman who is married from another country. But does not use her husbands last name in any of her legal documents ( ie: filing for passport, visa, drivers license, joint tax returns, jobs and school. ) is she considered married in the United States, if they never registered their marriage license in any US Court?

Thank you for your question.

The answer is Yes, if she was married overseas, she is still married under US law whether or not the marriage was ever registered or even mentioned in the US. The only exception would be if the marriage was void under the law of the place it was performed.

I hope this information is helpful.
