Hi I'm in the state of Florida I am a small painting company somebody a suing me for $17,000 they have sent the demand letter to me which I have replied back to they said they are contemplating filing suit my question is I am wondering how long does it take to file suit in general in the state of Florida for a civil suit such as this for example I spoke to the lawyer on November 15th what's a ballpark of number of days that I should be served papers

Normally you would be served within two weeks of them filing the lawsuit.

There is no way to tell how long it will take for them to file the lawsuit. That depends on a lot of different factors but primarily their attorney's schedule. They have up to 5 years from the date of breach if you had a written contract and up to 4 years if it is an oral contract.
