Customer Question

I live in Wisconsin. I will be selling my home. I am being asked for my social security number by the buyers representatives and the Title Company. I have been told by others there is no legal reason for it and that they do not really need it. I have been told as I have always heard. Do not share your Soc Sec with anyone unless legally required. I am the seller not the buyer. There are no child support issues or other complicators extant.
Can I just tell them NO I am not giving out my Soc Sec #?

Hello. My name is Alex.
Thank you for your question.
I will be happy to provide you with information you are seeking for educational purposes only.

Unfortunately, not only most mortgage lender's require seller's social security number due to stringent new banking laws, before a mortgage could be approved for the buyer, but also closing attorney / title agent has to have seller's and buyer's social security numbers for tax reporting purposes, so generally, not disclosing seller's social security number is ***** an option under the current laws.

I wish you the best of luck!
