My brother just passed away I'm s brother. He was abandoned

Customer Question

My brother just passed away I'm his brother. He was abandoned by his wife and two (2) young adults. My brother suffered from heart issues and mental illness issues. He asked me many months prior to his death to be his POA.
I helped his wife and family sell their Lakewood, CA property while they demanded 50% of house sale proceeds.
I was advised to file "abandonment" at the time the house sold. My brother asked me not to. Since he has passed I'm stuck with all his wife and adult kids personal possessions? I have been trying to help them with collecting the pension he left for them and now they are threatening to hire an attorney?
Please advise...

What is the basis for them hiring an attorney? Is the property being probated?
