Had a patient on speaker 30 seconds wanting to complain

Customer Question

Had a patient on speaker for about 30 seconds wanting to complain about an employee while her boyfriend sat in the waiting area. Is that a hipaa violation?

To add, I work in a pharmacy. It was strictly about a complaint about being on hold to long. It was 10 minutes before closing and no other customer in store besides the patients boyfriend. Is it even considered a HIPAA Violation?
Expert:  Phillips Esq. replied 1 year ago.

No, there is no HIPAA violation. Patient's medical information was not disclosed to anyone.

What if the patients boyfriend states otherwise? Can my co-workers testify on my behalf?
Expert:  Phillips Esq. replied 1 year ago.

Yes, your co-workers can testify on your behalf.
